Milan was the first city we landed in Italy, and was a base for us to visit Lake Como the following day before leaving for Florence.
The first thing we did was rush to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” which we had pre-booked at the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. We had to lug our backbacks around and make a mad dash for the metro to see “The Last Supper” at our allotted timebelt.

We were given only 15mins to look at the two paintings in the room. The painting looked a bit 3D to me, but it was fading. No photography was allowed in the room, and you were expected to remain as quiet as possible so as not to disturb the peace of the handful (only 25 tourists were allowed at each entry) of people in the room.
Opposite “The Last Supper” was a painting by Giovanni Donato da Montofarno, titled “Crucifixion”. We spotted some gamblers at the bottom right hand corner of the painting playing with dices! Why were they even gambling when the situation looked so chaotic?
After dropping off our backpacks at Sweet Hostel, we felt so much lighter! We headed to the Duomo straight away!
The interior was as fascinating as the exterior! We paid 8 Euros to take the lift to the rooftop of the Duomo and the view up there was even more breathtaking!
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was just next to the Duomo, and housed many luxury flagship stores (Prada, Gucci, Bottega,etc).
Even the McDonald’s inside Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II looked more posh than any I’ve ever seen in my life!

Many people were crowding around this mosaic floor – where people step on the bull’s testicles and spin around to receive good luck. Poor bull! You need to get your testicles replaced soon!

What’s Italy without Gelato??!!? We stumbled upon La Voglia which was supposed to have good ice-cream and went in to get ourselves some to beat the heat!
The Sforza Castle now housed a lot of museums. We didn’t really venture into the museums, but just strolled around.
Our last stop was Port Genova (a quite neighourhood), where we decided to have a light snack by the canal to end off the night. It had been a tiring day for us!

I went back to Milan in 2012, 3 years after visiting it for the first time.
Hopefully the painting doesn’t fade any further!
