Winter Sonata

Nami Island (Namiseom, 남이섬) is 63km away from Seoul, but our ferry ride was only 5mins from Incheon to Chuncheon where the island was located.

Flags from around the world greeted us at the Nami Island Ferry Terminal (3 May 2010)

I didn’t hear about Nami Island until the popular Korean Drama “Winter Sonata” (starring Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo in 2002). I loved the theme song to “Winter Sonata” titled “From the beginning till Now” because of its sad but beautiful melody. I didn’t watch the drama but I heard the song and fell in love with it. I believe “Winter Sonata” is a melodrama and I’m not so much into this genre of dramas/movies.

There’s a “little mermaid” at Nami Island too, and she greeted us right at the Ferry Terminal!

It was spring when we visited Nami Island and pretty flowers were blooming everywhere! The bonus for us were the cherry blossoms! There were a few ostriches roaming about the Island too!

There were lots of stone and wood carvings scattered across the island. The draw to Nami Island is definitely the beautiful scenery.

The famous “redwood-lined” path and the “snowmen kiss” on the picnic table were some of the locations where “Winter Sonata” was filmed. There was even a “Winter Sonata Cafe” and bronze statues of the lead actor and actress on the island!

We spent almost half a day at Nami Island but had to leave for the airport to catch a flight to Jeju.

I will be back, Nami Island!
